Electrolysis Hair Removal 1
Electrolysis-Kent-Beau-Boutique1

Electrolysis hair removal will bring an end to regular shaving, waxing, and plucking unwanted hair off your face or body.

Electrolysis is the process of removing hair by inserting a narrow probe into the hair follicle, where it triggers a chemical and heat reaction that destroys the hair’s root.

When properly performed, electrolysis results are beautiful, and may offer results for people who are otherwise not a candidate for laser hair removal (i.e. people with extremely dark skin, or someone who has red, blonde or grey hair).

It is suitable for all hair and skin types and can be administered to any body part.

Several hairs will be treated in each session and a commitment to regular appointments is essential to catch all the hairs in any one area due to the hair cycle.

Most areas of the face and body can be treated successfully with electrolysis but for larger areas, or for dark hair on the face, we recommend laser hair removal at our Ashford clinic.

Electrolysis Consultation & Skin Test

Electrolysis treatments are a form of electrical epilation where a wire filament is inserted into the hair follicle and a very minute amount of current is delivered to the root of hair to destroy it.

The area for treatment will be assessed and the treatment process will be discussed in detail. Any questions you may have will be answered at this stage.

If you are happy with the information provided and would like to proceed with treatment, dependant on suitability, a skin test will be carried out on the same day.

This will involve carrying out a test area of Electrolysis on the area to be treated to check effectiveness.

Following this your practitioner will calculate how many sessions will be required for effective results for you and then book in your future sessions.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions before booking your consultation.

Is there any discomfort or side effects?

Electrolysis-Kent-3

Electrolysis can be uncomfortable, specially in sensitive areas but most people find it tolerable as it offers the most effective and longest-lasting results.

The sensation varies according to the area of the body being treated, as well as the pain threshold of the person being treated.

After the treatment you may find that there is some localised redness and swelling in the treated area, which should disappear after a couple of days. If you have any ingrown or distorted hairs they may develop tiny pinprick scabs, which will naturally fall away within a week.

The sensation is described as a slight sting or short heat sensation. A topical anaesthetic is available to make your treatment more comfortable (applicable for hair removal electrolysis only)

The possible reactions following the treatment of electrolysis / advanced electrolysis are:

  •  Erythema (reddening of the skin)
  •  Swelling
  •  Blanching
  •  Blistering
  •  Crusts and scabbing
  •  Blemishes
  •  Pigmentation markings

However, rest assured that most of the above reactions are superficial and short lived.

Those that are applicable and/or more likely to occur following your treatment will be discussed and advised during your consultation.

Will electrolysis hair removal work for me?

Electrolysis-in-Tenteden-Kent-4

Generally all areas of the face and body are safely treatable by electrolysis hair removal.

Unlike laser, electrolysis hair removal is independent of hair colour therefore blonde, white and grey hair types can be treated.

Electrolysis hair removal is very skilled and takes time; it is, therefore, most suitable for smaller areas or sensitive areas with fewer hairs.

Needle-type electrolysis is the only practice that can permanently remove hair, regardless of the skin type.

Depending on the treated area and the patient’s pain tolerance, a treatment session might last anywhere from 30 minutes to more than 2 hours.

Pregnancy is not normally a contraindication to electrolysis, but the breasts and abdominal areas should be avoided because the skin is already stretched and under duress; but electrolysis poses no threat to an unborn child.

However, a pregnant woman or lactating mother should ALWAYS speak with their health practitioner before embarking on this treatment. We may also advise you to wait a few days after your delivery.

How does electrolysis work?

How-electrolysis-works

Electrolysis removes individual hairs at the follicle via an electric current that is applied with a fine, needle-shade electrode or metal probe.

The electric current destroys the hair follicle at the root, preventing it from ever growing back in the future.

Hair grows in cycles, so it is impossible to remove all of the hair in one area of the body in one session. Each treatment takes between 15 and 90 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and several treatments are usually needed for long term clearance.

Everyone can benefit from electrolysis hair removal, regardless of skin type.

Before treatment commences you will have had a full consultation and skin test with one of our electrolysis practitioners who will determine your suitability for treatment, and work out how many sessions you are likely to require for best results.
